Mevagh Family Resource Centre in conjunction with LYFS are providing MEET ‘Healthy Lifestyles Programme’ in your area.

MEET ‘Healthy Lifestyles Programme’ encompasses skills based, fully evaluated programme (Univ. of Ulster  ) to tackle childhood obesity and promote healthy lifestyles in Donegal.

Programme outcomes;

  • Make healthier food choices,
  • Build confidence to change
  • Healthier Family
  • An increased awareness of food habits;
  • Cooking Skills
  • Increased Physical Activity

 The programme is for parents/guardians of children from 0-5 years.

The programme lasts for 8 weeks and there is no charge.

Time: 10 am-12 noon. It will take place each Friday morning for 8 weeks

The Parents Plus Adolescents Programme is a practical and positive course in parenting adolescents (aged 11 to 16) focusing on effective communication, problem solving and building positive relations.  Topics Include: getting to know and connecting with your teenager, communicating positively and effectively, building your teenager’s self-esteem and confidence, negotiating rules and boundaries, teaching teenagers responsibility, positive discipline for teenagers, managing conflict, solving problems together.  Starting beginning of October in Milford.  Morning and evening workshops will be offered.  For details and bookings, call Margaret or Pauline on 9155055 or 087 9228944.  All workshops are free but there is a charge of €10 for Parents Pack.

Child Health & Well-being Event – Mulroy Community Health Forum invite you to attend our free information and advice workshop for parents which will include speakers and information on diet, dental hygiene, speech and language therapy, sleep and behaviour, general health and well-being, support agencies for parents and much more.  This event will be held on Thursday 6th October from 6:00 to 9:00 pm in Mulroy Woods Hotel, Milford.  Chef Martin Anderson will be in attendance to provide a cookery demonstration on healthy eating.  All are welcome to attend.   This event is being organised by Mulroy Community Health Forum in association with Donegal Local Development Company Ltd and Donegal Community Health Network.

Mná Mhíobhaigh / Mevagh Women’s Group – will be meeting on Monday, 19th September at 8pm in the centre. A brief planning meeting will be held followed by an evening with local historian, Kevin Ward.

Mevagh Craft Group – continue to meet weekly on Thursday mornings from 10.30 am – 12.30 pm in the Mevagh Family Resource Centre.  New members are always welcome.

 Breastfeeding Support Group – will continue to meet on Thursday Mornings from 11:00am-12:30pm. This group is Public Health Nurse led and is open to all mums-to-be and new mums who are interested in breastfeeding.

Yoga with Diane Bliss: Starting 21st September from 10am-11am. Cost €50 for 8 weeks. Some places still remaining, contact centre on 9155055 to confirm your place.

 Busy Bees Parent & Toddler Group is an informal group which provides an opportunity for young children and their parents/carers to meet.  The group resumes their weekly meetings on Friday, 9th September from 10am-12 noon in the Resource Centre.  Cost €3 per family.

McGrath School of Speech & Drama will run their ‘Beginners classes’ on Friday evenings at 5.30pm and 6.30pm in the Mevagh Family Resource Centre.  Benefits of Speech & Drama include ‘Improved Listening Skills & Speaking Ability’, ‘Concentration & Observation Abilities’, ‘Ability to Work as a Team & Take Turns’, an ‘Awareness of the World Around Us & Ability to Problem Solve’, being able to ‘Think Outside the Box’ while having lots of fun! Contact Karen on 087 9186271 to reserve your child’s place.

 Basic IT Skills for Farmers: On a Wednesday evening from 7pm-10pm (Herd Number required).  Cost: €2 donation for refreshments.

 Basic Computer Course: Friday morning from 10-12 noon for 8 weeks.  Cost €40.

Phonics Workshop for Preschool Children: An evening class from 7:30pm-9:30pm.

 Maths for Parents of National School Children: 6 week course starting September, date to be decided.

Mevagh Men’s Group – will recommence on Tuesday evening, 13th September at 8pm in the centre.  New members welcome.
