Child and Parent Activities

The Breastfeeding Support Group meet on Thursday mornings from 11am to 12:30pm in the Centre.  This is a drop-in support group and is open to pregnant and breastfeeding mums and is Public Health Nurse led. Feel free to pop in to meet other mums and enjoy a cuppa. For further details contact the Centre or your local healthcare professional.

Busy Bees, Parent, Baby & Toddler Group: Are you a new mum or dad, parent, grandparent, childminder? Why not join this group.  They meet on Friday mornings from 10am to 12 noon.  Come along and bring your busy bees for some fun!  Cost €3 per family.

Our Junior Youth Club is for children aged 7 to 12 years.  The club meets on Thursdays from 3:15pm to 4:30pm and the weekly fee is €2 per child.  Registration fee is €20 per child.  Family discounts are available.

Youth Club – Club Óige Mhíobhaigh provides a social gathering/facility for children in the Mevagh area between the ages of 12 and 15 years.  It is held on Friday nights from 7:30pm to 9pm.  Registration fee is €20 per child with a weekly fee of €2.  Contact Pauline for more information.

McGrath School of Speech & Drama run classes on Wednesday evenings from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the centre.  Classes are suitable for boys and girls from 4 to 18 years.  Phone Karen on 087 9186271 for more information.

ParentStop is one piece of the family support jigsaw on offer in the county and provides confidential one-to-one, telephone and group support to parents who need some help with parenting challenges. ParentStop is here to offer support. To make an outreach appointment at the Centre contact Sarah Devenney, Parent Support Officer.
This is a free service supported by public finance and all information is confidential between the Parent Support Officer and the individual parent. Contact Sarah Devenney on 0877149789 to arrange an appointment.


Mevagh Book Club: The group meet on the second Tuesday of each month at 8pm in the Centre. New readers always welcome.

Mevagh Craft Group:  Meet weekly and share skills such as knitting, crochet, cross stitch, sewing and quilting. Members freely share ideas, swap patterns and help one another along. The group meet every Thursday morning from 10:30am to 12:30pm at the centre. Cost €3 per session.

Mevagh Carers Group: The Carers Group meet on the second Tuesday of each month.  All Carers, both registered and non-registered are welcome to attend.  For more information contact Pauline at the Centre.

Mevagh Men’s Group: The Men’s group meet on the second Tuesday of each month in the Centre from 8pm to 10pm.

Mevagh Women’s Group: The Mevagh Women’s Group meet on the 3rd Monday of every month at 8pm in the Centre.

Sheephaven Men’s Shed: The Shedders meet on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 7:00 pm until 10:00 pm.  The Shed is open to members only. There is currently a waiting list in operation. Contact Marrietta for details.

Mevagh Community Garden: The community garden is open to the community. Membership of the gardening group takes place in February. Membership for new members is €50 for the season. This entitles individuals to a raised bed in the polytunnel a raised bed outside and three drills. There is tuition from a Community Gardener for a number of weeks at the beginning of the growing season.
